Geologist 2011 - UPSC Examination

Geologist Examination (UPSC)
The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) holds a competitive Examination named Geologists Examination (3rd December 2011) for recruitment to the posts of

Category I: (Posts in the Geological Survey of India, Ministry of Mines)
  • Geologist - Group A
Category II: (Posts in the Central Ground Water Board, Ministry of Water Resources)
  • Jr. Hydro geologists (Scientist B) - Group A
  • Assistant Hydro geologists - Group B
Eligibility:
Age Limits : The candidate must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 32 years on the 1st January, 2011 i.e. he must have been born not earlier than 2nd January, 1979 and not later than 1st January, 1990. The Upper age limit is relaxable for candidates belonging to scheduled castes/scheduled tribes/ other backward classes and certain other categories.
Educational Qualification: Master's Degree in Geology or Applied Geology or Marine Geology from a recognised University or equivalent. Candidates who are studying in final year degree courses and have yet to pass final year degree examination or equivalent examination can also apply for examination.
Duration of Examination : 03 Days

How to Apply:
Candidates are required to apply Online using the link http://www.upsconline.nic.in
Candidates residing in certain Remote Areas can exercise the option of applying through Offline mode by using the Common Application Form (Form-E).

Last Date for receiving applications:
Online: The Online Applications can be filled upto19th September, 2011 till 11.59 PM after which the link will be disabled.
The candidates residing in remote areas have the option to apply offline; the last date for receipt of applications is 26th September, 2011.

Selection process:
The selection process consists of written examinations and a personality interview
Written examination in the subjects
(1) General English (100 marks – 3hrs)
(2) Geology Paper I (200 marks – 3 hrs)
(3) Geology Paper II (200 marks – 3 hrs)
(4) Geology Paper III (200 marks – 3 hrs)
(5) Hydro geology (200 marks – 3 hrs)
Note: Candidates competing for posts under both Category I and Category II will be required to offer all the five subjects mentioned above. Candidates competing for posts under Category I only will be required to offer subjects at (1) to (4) above and candidates competing for posts under Category II only will be required to offer subjects at (1) to (3) and (5) above. Interview for Personality Test
The candidate will be interviewed by a Board of competent and unbiased observers who will have before them a record of his/her career. The object of the interview is to assess his/her suitability for the posts for which he/she has competed. Special attention will be paid in the Personality Test to assessing the candidate’s capacity for leadership, initiative and intellectual curiosity, tact and other social qualities, mental and physical energy, powers of practical application, integrity of character and aptitude for adapting themselves to the field life.
