Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE 2013)



Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an all India examination that tests the complete understanding of several undergraduate subjects/courses in Engineering and Technology.   

The GATE score is used for admissions to various post-graduate programmes such as M.E., M.Tech, direct Ph.D. in Indian higher education institutes with financial assistance provided by MHRD and other Government agencies.  The score is also sometimes used by government and public sector departments for employment screening.

GATE is conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of Science and seven IITs (IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati, IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Madras and IIT Roorkee) on behalf of the National Coordination Board – GATE, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India.

GATE 2013 is going to be conducted in 21 different streams. They are:

  1. AE – Aerospace Engineering
  2. AG –  Agricultural Engineering
  3. AR – Architecture and Planning
  4. BT – Biotechnology
  5. CE – Civil Engineering
  6. CH – Chemical Engineering
  7. CS – Computer Science and Information Technology
  8. CY – Chemistry
  9. EC – Electronics and Communication Engineering
  10. EE – Electrical Engineering
  11. GG – Geology and Geophysics
  12. IN – Instrumentation Engineering
  13. MA – Mathematics
  14. ME – Mechanical Engineering
  15. MN – Mining Engineering
  16. MT – Metallurgical Engineering
  17. PH – Physics
  18. PI – Production and Industrial Engineering
  19. TF – Textile Engineering and Fibre Science
  20. XE – Engineering Sciences (Engineering Mathematics <compulsory>, Fluid Mechanics, Materials Science, Solid Mechanics, Thermodynamics, Polymer Science and Engineering, Food Technology)
  21. XL – Life Sciences (Chemistry <compulsory>, Biochemistry, Botany, Microbiology, Zoology, Food Technology) 


Note: 
  • A Candidate can apply for only ONE of the 21 papers listed above.
  • A candidate appearing in the XE paper has to answer Engineering Mathematics, General Aptitude, and any two of these subjects: Fluid Mechanics, Materials Science, Solid Mechanics, Thermodynamics, Polymer Science and Engineering, Food Technology
  • A candidate appearing in the XL paper has to answer Chemistry, General Aptitude, and any two of these subjects: Biochemistry, Botany, Microbiology, Zoology, Food Technology
  • The GATE examination consists of a single paper of 3 hours duration which contains 65 questions carrying a maximum of 100 marks.
  • The question paper will consist of only objective questions.
  • All the papers will contain few questions that test the General Aptitude (Language and Analytical Skills), apart from the core subject of the paper.
  • The GATE examination is conducted in online and offline mode.
    • ONLINE Examination: A computer based test (CBT) where the candidate will use a computer mouse to choose a correct answer or enter a numerical answer via a virtual keypad. 15 streams i.e. AE, AG, AR, BT, CE, CH, CY, GG, MA, MN, MT, PH, TF, XE, and XL are conducted Online.
    • OFFLINE Examination:  A paper based examination where the candidate will mark the correct answer out of four options in an Optical Response Sheet (ORS) by darkening the appropriate bubble with a pen. 6 Streams i.e. CS, EC, EE, IN , ME, and PI are conducted Offline.

  • Last date for Submission of Online Application Form (Website Closure): 30th September 2012 
  • Receipt of printed version of ONLINE Application at GATE Offices: 8th October 2012 
  • GATE 2013 Online Exam Date: 20th January 2013 
  • GATE 2013 Offline Exam Date: 10th February 2013
  • Announcement of GATE 2013 results: 15th March 2013

NMIMS Management Aptitude Test - NMAT 2013


NMIMS Management Aptitude Test (NMAT 2013)
NMIMS Management Aptitude Test (NMAT) is the official entrance exam to enter SVKM's Narsee Monjee Institute Of Management Studies (School Of Business Management). NMIMS offers a wide range of MBA programs, both general management and specialised areas, to suit industry requirements and make a student future ready.

Programs Offered are:
MBA: 360 seats
MBA Banking: 60 seats
MBA Capital Market: 60 seats
MBA HR: 30 seats
MBA Pharmaceutical Management: 120 seats
PGDM – Bengaluru Campus: 120 seats
PGDM – Hyderabad Campus: 60 seats
Admissions to all these programs are through NMIMS Management Aptitude Test (NMAT) followed by Group Discussions & Personal Interview. NMAT is conducted in a time frame of 3 months, allowing choice of two retakes to the students should any of them wish to. In such cases, the best of three scores will be considered.

Admission Schedule :-  NMAT 2013
The schedule & registration charges for NMAT is as under:
Registration:  11th July, 2012 to 25th September, 2012     
Late Registration: 26th September, 2012 to 4th October, 2012
Scheduling: 19th July, 2012 to 5th October, 2012
Rescheduling: 19th July, 2012 to 17th December, 2012
Test Delivery: 11th October, 2012 to 19th December, 2012
Retake Scheduling: 11th October, 2012 to 17th December, 2012
Pearson VUE will carry out the online registration & will conduct NMAT on behalf of NMIMS. Interested candidates have to visit the NMIMS website for online registration. For appearing for NMAT online application has to be duly submitted & payment of registration charges need to be made in any of the prescribed mode i.e. Credit card, Cash at Bank or Demand Draft within stipulated time.

Eligibility Criteria For Admission:
MBA / MBA Banking / MBA Capital Market
  • Full Time Bachelor’s Degree (10+2+3/4) in any discipline from a UGC recognized University with minimum 50% marks in the aggregate in first attempt.
  • The candidate must have completed graduation in the stipulated duration as per the respective University/Institution awarding the degree.
  • Those candidates who have cleared their graduation by doing a part-time course or through distance learning, correspondence courses, externally, open school are NOT ELIGIBLE to apply.
MBA HR (Selection process is separate)
  • Full Time Bachelor’s Degree (10+2+3/4) in any discipline from a UGC recognized University with minimum 50% marks in the aggregate in first attempt.
  • The candidate must have completed graduation in the stipulated duration as per the respective University/Institution awarding the degree.
  • Those candidates who have cleared their graduation by doing a part-time course or through distance learning, correspondence courses, externally, open school are NOT ELIGIBLE to apply.
MBA Pharmaceutical Management (Selection process is separate)
  • Full Time Bachelor’s Degree (10+2+3/4) in Pharmacy, Science, Life Sciences, Medical doctors MBBS, BDS, BHMS, BAMS, B.Sc and M.Sc in Biotechnology from a UGC recognized University with minimum 50% marks in the aggregate in first attempt. Post Graduate degree in Economics, Psychology and Sociology can also apply.
  • The candidate must have completed graduation in the stipulated duration as per the respective University/Institution awarding the degree.
  • Those candidates who have cleared their graduation by doing a part-time course or through distance learning, correspondence courses, externally, open school are NOT ELIGIBLE to apply.
  • Candidates with B.Tech & B.E in Bio Tech & Bio – Medical are also eligible to apply.
  • Candidates presently working in Pharmaceutical Companies for more than a year are preferred.
PGDM – Bengaluru campus / PGDM – Hyderabad campus
  • Full Time Bachelor’s Degree (10+2+3/4) in any discipline from a UGC recognized University with minimum 50% marks in the aggregate in first attempt.
  • The candidate must have completed graduation in the stipulated duration as per the respective University/Institution awarding the degree.
  • Those candidates who have cleared their graduation by doing a part-time course or through distance learning, correspondence courses, externally, open school are NOT ELIGIBLE to apply.

Structure of the Test:
NMAT would be an objective type multiple-choice test. (There will be no descriptive type questions).
The NMAT will comprise the following:
Language Skills: 32 Questions in 22 minutes
Quantitative Skills:  48 Questions in 60 minutes
Logical Reasoning: 40 Questions in 38 minutes
Total: 120 Questions in 120 minutes

The candidate should note that it is important for them to perform well relative to other candidates in each of the 3 sections of the test as the score of each section and the overall  score will be used to shortlist the candidate for the second stage of the selection process as well as in the final ranking.  Please note that there will be no negative marking.
Note: If the candidate is not satisfied by his/her NMAT score in the first attempt he/she may schedule for Re-take NMAT by visiting www.pearsonvue.com/nmims and logging in with the allotted username and password. In case of candidates taking more than one attempt the best score which is the total score & its respective sectional score, which make the candidate eligible as per the cut offs declared by NMIMS, will be considered for short listing for subsequent process. (Cut off means sectional as well as total score). The scores of all the attempts taken by the candidate will be declared on the NMIMS website.
